How Much Juice is Too Much?

If you are into juicing, have you ever wondered if you can drink too much juice in a day or for that matter at one time?

In other words “How much juice can be consumed safely?”

As a general rule one pint (16 ounces) daily is the minimum that will provide any perceptible results. If you are interested in optimum results you should be taking two to eight pints or more daily. Eight pints equals one gallon (128 ounces).

Bear this in mind the more juice you drink, the quicker you will see results. Any juice squeezed should be consumed within 30 minutes.

In the beginning when juice consumption was first introduced it was suggested that it be taken in small doses. This was mainly because there was no commercial juicing machine on the market at the time. Can you imagine squeezing 128 ounces of carrot juice by hand! Today it is not a problem with some excellent and efficient hydraulic juicers on the market.

There are some some definite principles involved in producing a juice that will retain all the vitamins and minerals that are contained in the original fruit or vegetable. The release of the mineral and chemical elements; the vitamins and hormones from the tiny microscopic cells of the fibers of fruits and vegetables, then separating the juice from the fiber is really an art.

The centrifugal juicing machines only extract a very little of the vital elements, vitamins, etc. from the fruits and/or vegetables. It is a physical impossibility, using centrifugal juicing machines, to extract more than a certain percentage of the liquid or moisture. Check the pulp after a juice session with a centrifugal machine, see how moist it is. If you took this pulp and processed it through a hydraulic press it would probably render almost as much juice as was produced by the centrifugal process.

Need I say more about the advantage of the hydraulic juicing machine.

Notwithstanding the disadvantages of the inefficient centrifugal juicing machine, there is still some benefit to be derived from such juices, as the water they contain is definitely vital organic, and as such it has a great deal of beneficial nutritional value.

Water is inorganic. Tap or public water has been treated with chlorine and other chemicals which really makes it unfit for human consumption. Just because it does not make a person sick does not necessarily mean that it is benefits the human body. The water in streams and rivers is also inorganic as it does not contain the vital life-containing atoms of fruit and vegetable water.

The only source of vital organic water is derived from vegetation. This means that our fruits and vegetables and the juices from them, which contain the vital organic water, is the only water source that will keep the human system healthy. YES - we also need pure water for continued hydration of the human system, not for nutrition. These fruits and vegetables must be raw and must never be cooked, steamed, canned or otherwise processed or pasteurized.

Drinking juice from which the pulp (mush) “has not” been extracted, taxes the digestive organs MORE than eating the raw fruits and vegetables. When eating raw fruits and vegetables the saliva created by the process of complete mastication is essential to the complete digestion when the cellulose fiber is present.

The correct way to prepare juice is to grind the fruits and vegetables completely which means the complete reduction to a fibrous mass. This mass should be some fine it could be spread like apple butter. A hydraulic press is ideal for this method of juice preparation.

    Tips to Healthy Eating

Balancing the food you consume will help keep your body in great health. Eating healthy will energize your body for the day, while giving your body the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay strong for you to enjoy activities which will in turn help you to maintain a healthy weight.

Below, you will find tips designed to aid you with healthy eating.

    1. Do not skip any meals

Three meals a day with snacks in between is the ideal way to maintain both your energy and to keep a healthy weight. When you skip meals and get hungry, you are to a higher degree likely to select foods that aren’t really healthy for you.

Whenever you are eating away from home, take the food with you or know where you will be able to purchase healthy food.

    2. Learn about how to prepare foods

Rather than choosing to deep fry, attempt to grill, stir fry, bake or even boiling your food. You should also consider fresh or even dried herbs and spices to bring flavour to your food. Prior to you consuming any type of meat, make sure to trim the fat and skin away.

    3. Avoid a large amount of sugar

Beverages that contain sugar are a major source of empting your energy levels. What this implies, is that the beverages hold a lot of energy that your body might not need, and it does not contain any vitamins or minerals. Whenever you plan to drink sugary beverages, do not go overboard - limit yourself to 1 a day.

    4. Avoid thinking of dieting.

There are neither good foods nor bad foods. All food can become part of a healthy diet, when consumed in moderation. You do not need to purchase low carb, fat free, or even so called diet foods, as these foods normally have lots of additional added ingredients to replace the carbohydrates or fat.

    Happy Eating.

      Colon and Blood Cleansing Naturally

      Posted by : Rudy Silva

If you think that cleansing out your colon and blood is an exotic practice, take another look at why you need to do this. Just like you take a shower everyday, as you should, you should cleanse internally every day and especially the colon. By concentrating on the colon you automatically help cleanse your blood, if you do it right

So how do you cleanse yourself internally everyday? You do this in two ways. First you need to follow your own body cycles and help them achieve what they are trying to do. Then you need to provide the substances to do the cleaning.

      Body Cycles

The body has three major cycles that it follows. In the morning until noon it is trying to cleanse itself of the chemicals and toxins it has collected from the various parts of your body, during the time you were asleep. From noon time to nine in the evening, your body is digesting and absorbing the food that you have eaten during lunch and dinner.

So the cycle to concentrate on for a daily colon and blood cleansing is from the time you wake up to noon time. It is this time that your body is trying to eliminate urine and fecal matter. Any thing that you do to prevent this cleanse with drastically affect your health. To help yourself during this morning cycle, you need to eat and drink only those foods that will digest within hours. If you drink water or juice - fruit or vegetable - when first getting up that liquid will come out of your body with an hour or so. This helps your body pull out any toxins it is waiting to eliminate. If you eat fruits or vegetables with their high source of minerals, vitamins, and fiber, you are activating peristaltic action in your colon and this helps to push through any fecal matter waiting to move out of your body.

By provide only those foods that are digested quickly you can help your body cleanse it. But if you eat those foods that take 3-4 hours to digest you’re hampering your cleansing body cycle and are promoting future diseases since those toxins and chemicals that are not good for you remain in your body and are stored as fat or toxin matter. So, avoid eating eggs, potatoes, sausage, ham, bread, butter, milk - the all American breakfast - during the morning. If you do you will start to feel healthier and perhaps start to lose weight.

When you drink juices and eat fruits in the morning you not only actives the elimination factions, but you provide your body with minerals. It is these minerals that when in the blood and lymph, they will neutralize acid waste which has the effect of a blood and lymph cleansing action.

So take a cue from your body, which knows what it doing, and follow along and give a helping hand. Eat and drink fruits and vegetables in the morning to cleanse the colon and the blood. Eating like this will help you keep clean inside just like when you shower to keep clean outside.

The Truth About Detox Diets and Integrative Manual Therapy

Posted by : Ralph Havens PT, OSC

Before going further, an explanation of how a detox diet works is essential so that you can discern the difference in the various types of detox diets out there. Most detox diets work by limiting toxic-type foods, allergen-type foods and processed foods to allow the body to “run clean” for a period of time. During this process, the body starts to breakdown fat and release toxins. This is what is termed “phase I” detox. What is important to realize is that the body in its wisdom took these toxic substances and stored them in fat, bone, the liver, the nervous system and other such places. When they are liberated from these areas, they are now back in the blood stream and gastro-intestinal (GI) tract. These toxins are extremely harmful to the body, and if this is all the detox diet does, then you are merely re-circulating toxic substances. Therefore, the toxins can cause significant problems by “landing” in vulnerable areas such as ****** tissue for example, or other areas where they can cause problems.

This is why a detox diet also must include the right supplements that support the body in what is called “phase II”. The supplements that I am referring to in this particular detox program are manufactured by Metagenics®. During phase II, the body converts these toxic substances into water-soluble toxic substances, still toxic but less so and more easily eliminated by the body. A detox diet that only consists of restricting food accomplishes phase I, but does not help phase II, or the transformation of toxic to less- toxic substances.

Please keep in mind that with Phase I and Phase II, the toxic substances are still in the body; this is why a detox diet also has to support phase III, which is the elimination of the water soluble toxins from the body. This is done with support of the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract and the urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder).

This is where Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT) can be quite useful as well. IMT has a series of assessments and techniques to allow the practitioner to locate which phase needs help. Does the body need support in it’s ability to release toxins? Does it need help in it’s ability to transform toxins into more easily eliminated toxins? Or does it need help with the routes of elimination such as the GI tract or urinary system? Each phase of detox can be helped with IMT. Manual Therapy techniques can also be used with detox diets to get a more complete elimination of toxins.

A good detox program can be quite valuable to help stimulate and assist the body in eliminating toxins, especially with the use of correct supplements and the right Integrative Manual Therapy techniques. This system takes the body through phases I, II and III, supporting a complete removal of toxins from the body. The effect can be dramatic once the body no longer has to deal with toxicity.

Detoxification is helpful for those who are suffering from chronic conditions such as allergies, anxiety, arthritis, chronic infections, unexplained fatigue, fibromyalgia, aches and pains, indigestion, and many more, which have been un-helped in the past.

The Detox program can alleviate the symptoms of chronic conditions so overall health and vitality can be restored.

Detox Diet - 4 Top Reasons Why You Should Avoid Wheat

        Posted by : Sandy Halliday

Most detox diets recommend that you exclude products made with wheat yet we are always being told that wheat fiber is good for the bowels. So why do you need to exclude it when on a detox diet?

        1. Overload

Wheat is probably one of the most consumed foods. Many people eat wheat three times a day. Wheat cereal for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, pasta or pizza for dinner with snacks of muffins, cakes and cookies in between.

Wheat is a relatively new food for the human race. Ancient man, the hunter-gatherers, lived on meat from the animals they hunted, fish and wild vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds that they gathered. It was not until the agricultural period that began about 12,000 years ago that wheat and other grains were introduced.

Genetic testing has discovered that people have simply not adapted to the introduction of wheat into the diet.

With so much wheat in our diets it can become a toxin and the detox diet aims to reduce toxins.

        2. Gluten allergy

Wheat contains gluten, a family of proteins, that as many as one in three people may be sensitive to. Gluten is also found in rye, barley and oats. The gluten in oats, however, is very different and can be tolerated by many people who react to the other gluten grains.

        3. Gliadin & leaky gut

Researchers have detected gliadin, the principle type of wheat gluten, in the blood of 15% of people they tested.Your digestive system provides a barrier between the foods you eat and your blood stream but if this barrier breaks down gliadin gets into the blood stream.

Many things can cause the intestinal barrier to” leak”. Drugs, alcohol, food allergies or sensitivities, constipation, gastric infections, aging, nutritional deficiencies are some of the things that can cause damage to the sensitive and delicate lining.

Once gliadin leaks across the barrier the immune system reacts to it and it becomes a toxin. Your detox system then has to deal with this particular toxin instead of the other toxins you want to get rid of. So all gluten grains including spelt, an ancient wheat, kamut and triticale as well as wheat rye and barley are best avoided on a detox diet.

        4. Hard to digest,

Wheat because of its complex structure is also hard to digest and almost all normal people fail to absorb a large amount of starch from wheat. These starches get fermented by the bacteria in the digestive system. Fermentation produces gases and acids that damage the lining.

People with many intestinal conditions like Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s, diverticulitis, Celiac improve when they avoid wheat and other gluten grains. Many people are surprised to find that they do react to wheat or that it causes digestive problems when they start eating it again after being on a detox diet.

        What to eat instead.

As so many people have wheat and gluten allergies or sensitivities it has become much easier to find products that do not contain them. Manufacturers have produced cereals, pasta and bread made with non-gluten grains.

Other grains or grain like seeds that can be eaten include brown rice, quinoa, millet, amaranth, buckwheat, gram flour (garbanzo or chickpea flour) and maize.

The detox diet is high in fruit and vegetables, seeds and other grains which will provide enough fiber for the digestive system to function well.

So although excluding wheat when on a detox diet may take some planning you will still be able to eat tasty meals. It will be well worth it when you find that many niggling symptoms like gas and bloating disappear and you feel so much better.
